Blechnum gibbum (Silver Lady) – Fern plants

Blechnum gibbum (Commonly known as Silver Lady) is a small tree fern. It forms a neat, symmetrical rosette of fronds up to
36 inches long and 12 inches wide, which eventually crowns a
scaly, black trunk up to 36 inches tall. The numerous leaflets of each frond are shiny green and slightly drooping. There are several forms distinguished by having either narrower, wider or more pointed leaflets. Blechnum gibbum have both sterile and spore-bearing fronds. This fern is suitable for growing either
indoors or outdoors.

How to grow and maintain Blechnum gibbum (Silver Lady):

Light:

It thrives best in light shade to bright sunlight but not direct sunlight.

Soil:

It grows well in moist, well-drained, compost-enriched and slightly acidic soil.

Water:

Water well during the growing season and always keep the soil evenly moist but never allow your plant to sit in water. You can
allow the top 1 inch of soil to dry out between each watering
. During the winter months, reduce watering.

Temperature:

It requires a temperaure in an active growth period, min 18°C -max 27°C (64-81°F) and needs to be kept above 15°C in winter.

Fertilizer:
Fertilize monthly during the growing season with a dilute solution of liquid fertilizer.

Propagation:

It can be easily propagated by spores which can take between
one and three months to germinate. Occasionally, these ferns
produce basal offsets which can be detached from the parents,
potted up and treated as mature ferns.

Pests and Diseases:

There is no serious pest or disease
problems. But susceptible to scale and root rot.
